Our Children's Teacher: Cari Rivera
Welcome to Alpine Co-op Preschool!
I grew up in Auburn, Washington and graduated from Auburn High School. I graduated from Green River Community College with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I spent many years as a co-op parent/board member while my children went through infant, toddler, and then preschool co-op classes. I have been teaching co-op preschool since 2001. My passion is art and hands-on learning experiences.
My husband and I have been married for 17 years and we have two daughters, 16 and 7 years old. Our family, immediate and extended, is very important to us. Both of our parents live in the area and most of our siblings have settled within the Seattle area. We are a busy family: both of our daughters play soccer, I am PTA President and an art teacher at the elementary school and we love the great outdoors - especially camping! Between soccer, orchestra concerts and family events, we are always on the go.
My co-op philosophy is this: "Never miss an opportunity for fear of getting messy!" Preschool is such a wonderful time for the young child: everything is new and exciting. Make messes, sing silly songs and make memories! That is what preschool is all about. Just remember - your child will only be 3 (or 4 or 5) ONCE! You will always find me getting messy right there with the kids - come join me! Preschool keeps us young!
I am looking forward to an amazing year with you and your family. We will all be learning and growing together and it's a journey you and your family will never forget!
If there is any way I can improve the preschool experience for you or your child, please let me know. You may email me at email@example.com. Please visit my blog for classroom photos, curriculum plans and great resources: http://teachercari.wordpress.com/
Our Parent Education Instructor: Melissa Harting
Melissa loves working with children and their families. She is happy to be a part of Bellevue College and working with the Toddler and Preschool classes. She became familiar with Bellevue College Co-op Preschool when she enrolled her son in the Toddler class and began attending co-op parent education classes. She facilitates our preschool's monthly Parent Education classes and weekly Toddler class which include lecture, discussion, and problem-solving components. She has a BA in Elementary Education and taught elementary school for several years before starting a family.
When not at the school, Melissa enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading and gardening. She believes a child's job is to play. "Play is the highest expression of human development in childhood for it alone is the free expression of what is in a child's soul." - Friedrich Froebel (known as the "Father" of Kindergarten)
